A fishing boat has sunk in the North Sea.

The alarm was raised on board the Fraserburgh-registered Odyssey this morning at around 5.30am, around 165 nautical miles east of Edinburgh.

All six crew members have been rescued by a nearby fishing vessel.

HM Coastguard says a fixed-wing aircraft was sent as well as a search and rescue helicopter from Norway.

A Coastguard statement said: "A crew of six was safely rescued after a fishing vessel sank in the North Sea about 165 nautical miles east of Edinburgh.

"The alarm was raised at about 5.30am on 29 October via an Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon registered to the vessel.

"An HM Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft was sent as well as a search and rescue helicopter from Norway.

"A broadcast was issued for nearby vessels to support the search.

"The crew was recovered safe and well from a life raft by a fishing vessel which responded to the call for help.

"No one was reported missing and the crew will be brought to shore by another vessel."
