The COPFS says it is meeting with Aberdeen city council on a regular basis to review the progress of an investigation into the death of a ten-year-old girl after visit to a swimming pool.

Emergency services were called to the Get Active @ Northfield complex in February last year after reports Jessica Rennie got into difficulty in the water.

Jessica was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but later died.

A spokesperson for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a child in Aberdeen on 13 February 2024.

“The investigation into the death is ongoing and the family will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments."

The COPFS does not have the power in law to direct Aberdeen City Council in its investigation.

But the service says it is working with an expert in swimming pool safety to advise on specific lines of enquiry.

Aberdeen City Council said it will not comment whilst enquiries are ongoing.
