A man who's torture of another man ended in him jumping from an Aberdeen flat to his death has been jailed.

Lee Smith abducted 37-year-old Jamie Forbes and held him against his will at his flat in Elphinstone Court in January.

Smith, also 37, repeatedly struck his victim with a hammer and punched and kicked him during the attack.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Jamie felt he had no other choice but to take the jump that ended his life.

Smith earlier admitted culpable homicide - he will now spend eight years behind bars.

Shortly after Jamie's death, his family released a statement through Police Scotland where they described him as "much-loved".

They said: “Jamie was a much loved son, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and forever loved brother and brother-in-law.

"We ask that our privacy as a family is respected at this difficult time.”
