Aberdeen budget: potential cuts revealed ahead of crunch meeting next week
Some street lights could be switched off, Hazlehead's Pets Corner closed and parking fees introduced at the beach.
Aberdeen City Council's potential budget cuts have been revealed in documents ahead of a crunch meeting next Wednesday.
The local authority is faced with a £25 million funding deficit over the upcoming year.
Council chiefs will look to increase the costs of several services and reduce funding for others in a bid to balance the books.
One proposed option is to introduce parking charges at the beach which would generate some further income for the authority.
Parking permits for those in the city could be increased which would generate an extra £235,000 each year.
The road plan for the Berryden corridor, which looks to combat traffic congestion in the area, could be shelved saving the council £720,000.
To reduce energy costs, every second street light could be switched off which would save around £1 million.
Just last week, Aberdeenshire Council removed all school crossing patrollers in the region which sparked concerns from parents over child safety.
The city council will look to do the same next week with the aim of saving £85,000.
Aberdeen's animal attraction, Pets Corner at Hazlehead Park could be forced to close its doors in a bid to save £54,000.
Aberdeen Performing Arts could also be under threat as funding may be reduced by £200,000
Funding to sports organisations could also be cut to save £1.3 million.
Last year, the local authority were hit with a fierce campaign after the decision to close Bucksburn Swimming Pool.
It was forced to make a U-turn on the closure and the facility is now set to reopen.
The SNP Lib-Dem council will vote on the upcoming 2024/2025 budget on Wednesday 6 March.
