Man dies after crash on M5 in Devon

A man has died after a road traffic collision on the M5 in Devon last night.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called at around 11:10pm last night (September 18) after a report of the collision which involved four vehicles on the M5 southbound near to junction 28.

Police have now confirmed that as a result of the collision the driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 30s, from Plymouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

A man in his 40s, from the Cullompton area has been arrested on suspicion of causig death by dangerous driving.

Police say he remains in custody at this time.

Four other people were taken to hospital for treatment, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The fatal collision followed an initial three - vehicle collision on the M5 near Willand, which was first reported to police at around 9:50pm last night (September 18).

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that one man is seriously injured after three cars collided in the initial crash at 9:50pm.

The motorway was closed in both directions overnight.

National Highways have now confirmed that the motorway has fully reopened in both directions.

Devon and Cornwall Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant dash-cam footage to contact them on 101 or via their website quoting log 859 of 18 September.
