First trailer released for Happy Gilmore 2 as Netflix tease date

With news that the likes of Downtown Abbey and Bridget Jones are getting new instalments, it seems 2025 is going to be the year of comebacks, as Netflix bosses shared some VERY exciting news about 1996 film Happy Gilmore!
Happy Gilmore, which stars actor Adam Sandler in the lead role, follows the story of an unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers a newfound talent for golf, leading to him competing in a professional tournament in order to try and save his grandma's home.
Is there going to be a Happy Gilmore 2?
After years of rumours about a potential sequel, Netflix bosses announced the exciting news on Wednesday 15th May that a sequel was in the works, with Adam returning to reprise his now iconic role.
Sharing the news on social media, the post read: 'Happy Gilmore is back! Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix'.
Fans were understandably excited over the announcement. One wrote: 'It’s happening ⛳️🏌️♂️🥳', with another writing: 'This has made my year'.
A third wrote: 'It’s really happening! 🙏🏻', with another adding: 'Thrilled about this! 🥳'.
On Monday 9th September, Adam took to his own Instagram page to ramp up excitement about the sequel, posting a photo of his iconic movie outfit. He wrote: 'It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun'. (sic)
On the same day, Netflix also posted on social media to confirm the movie is now in production. They wrote: 'Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in production! ⛳️'. (sic)
When is it out?
There's no word yet on when the Happy Gilmore sequel will land, but in December 2024, Netflix said it was 'coming soon'.
Production for the movie started in the first week of September 2024.

YES! Netflix released the first teaser trailer over the festive period, giving fans the first look at Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore.

Despite confirming the second movie is officially happening and releasing a short teaser, Netflix bosses have so far kept silent on the plot.

Adam Sandler will reprise his role in the sequel.
The Happy Gilmore sequel is believed to be part of Adam's huge $250 million deal with streaming giant Netflix, where he's produced a number of movies so far, including Murder Mystery, The Ridiculous 6 and Sandy Wexler.
On Tuesday 10th September, Netflix revealed further casting details, confirming Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will return. Julie will reprise her role as Virginia Venit, whilst Christopher will return as Shooter McGavin.
It's also been announced Benito Martínez Ocasio has joined the cast for the second film
