An investigation has been launched to find out why a recycling centre in Nottingham was set on fire.

The fire at the recycling plant in the Lenton area of the city was found on Monday afternoon (January 31st).

Smoke from the fire from a significant distance as the fire quickly began to spread around the centre.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service responders were called to the plant to try and put out the fire.

As a result, Abbeyfield Road - located near to the plant - was closed to the public and traffic was diverted onto other local roads.

Similarly, the A52 was closed in both directions from Dunkirk to Clifton Bridge to keep public safe.

As firefighters battled into the night to get the blaze under control, a post on social media from Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service said that asbestos had been seen as a result of the fire.

Responders warned the public to avoid travelling through the area to keep the risk of asbestos poisoning to a minimum.

An investigation into how the fire was started and how it could spread so quickly is now being undertaken by the Fire and Rescue Service.
