Police name man who died following an assault in Leicester

A man who died after being assaulted in Tudor Road has been named by police.

Dumitru-Nicolae Cherascu, known as “Nicu” to his family, was found unconscious with serious head injuries at 11.30pm on Tuesday (29 November).

The 42-year-old, from Leicester, was taken to hospital but died on Friday evening (2nd December 2022).

Dumitru’s family are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

In a statement, they said: “Nicu was a much-loved father, husband, brother and uncle and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him. We must now try to come to terms with what has happened so we can begin to grieve this awful loss.”

Following his death, detectives launched a murder investigation.

One man, 41-year-old Marian Botea, has been charged with murder and will appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday 5th December).

Three other people, two women and a man, also arrested on suspicion of murder have been released from police custody.

A 34-year-old woman has been released on police bail.

A second 34-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man have been released with no further action.
