Two men locked up over Nottingham knife stand-off

Two men who confronted each other with knives during a broad daylight stand-off have been locked up.
Twenty-year-old Trumayne Evans had a large kitchen knife and 33-year-old Neil Smith was also carrying a knife during the disorder which happened in Clifton.
Both men pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon in public and affray following the incident which happened on the afternoon of Thursday 22 July 2021.
They were involved in an initial altercation in Hartness Road which then continued in Eucalyptus Avenue.
Smith, of Farnborough Road, Clifton, and Evans, of Orchard Grove, Bestwood, were sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (10 December 2021).
Smith was sent to prison for two years and three months. Evans was locked up for two years and two months.
Detective Constable Jaspal Nijjar, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Evans and Smith showed absolutely no regard for the public by carrying knives during this altercation which spilled out onto a neighbour’s property.
“Thankfully no-one was injured but as we have repeatedly seen, every incident involving a knife has the potential to result in serious injury as well as being incredibly distressing for the local community.
"That is why we are committed to reducing knife crime, with two dedicated knife crime teams working hard every day to keep people safe by tackling this issue and an intensive programme of education in schools and intervention work with partners across Nottinghamshire to prevent people engaging in violence.
"I would urge anyone who is concerned about someone they believe to carry a knife to contact the police so we can act quickly to take weapons off the streets - and the people who use them to cause harm - in our neighbourhoods.
