Man arrested after livestreaming assault on social media in Nottingham
The attack was streamed in the early hours of the morning
Police in Nottingham have arrested a man in connection with an attack that was livestreamed on social media.
Concerned viewers reported the incident to Nottinghamshire Police in the early hours of Thursday morning (February 10th).
After seeking the help from those who had seen the assault take place, officers were led to an address at Mansfield Road in Nottingham city centre.
When officers arrived at the scene, a man was found with severe injuries as the livestream continued to be broadcast.
The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries where he currently remains, while the attacker - a 23-year-old man - was apprehended.
Police have arrested the 23-year-old on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and affray, and currently remains in police custody.
Speaking about the incident, Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton from Nottinghamshire Police reassured the public of their safety in the city.
“Causing harm to others purposely is completely unacceptable behaviour. This incident has left a man hospitalised with serious injuries, for which he is receiving treatment, and as well as the physical impact of such incidents we understand the emotional impact such incidents can have. This is why such reports will always be met with robust action," he said.
“We do believe that those involved are known to each other, so we would reassure the public that there is no wider risk. Our investigation remains ongoing and officers continue to support the victim.”
