A man has been arrested after dumping a bag full of cash and Rolex watches in Radford on Wednesday (January 17).

He was approached by police after his car stopped, with officers describing him as 'evasive and dismissive'.

The suspect was asked about the problem with his rear offiside wheel, and when he went to fetch some documents from his car, he got back in, locked the doors and drove off, leading to a short pursuit.

During the police chase, it's reported the driver ignored no entry signs, drove onto tram lines and narrowly missed a motorcyclist as he tried to evade capture.

The 31-year-old then made off on foot with a rucksack and a bag for life after dumping the car in Durnford Street before being caught by Reno the police dog in an alleyway.

Officers searched the area and recovered a rucksack and bag, which contained various items including cash and several Rolex watches.

Inquiries to establish whether the watches were stolen are ongoing following the arrest, which took place at around 3.30am that morning.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving whilst unfit through drink / drugs.

PC Gareth Dennett, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an appalling display of driving and I am pleased he was quickly arrested with the help of PD Reno.

“The man was taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury he sustained during the arrest.

“He was then taken into custody for questioning.”
