A Leicestershire plumber who bagged a record deal after he was overheard singing while fitting a bathroom says he'll make music his full-time job in the spring.
Kev Crane, 51, from Quorn secured the contract following a chance encounter with record label owner Paul Conneally:
“The next-door neighbour heard me and said to Paul: ‘who’s that guy singing in your bathroom?’
“He said it’s the plumber. So we gets chatting and he tells me he’s got a record label. And I told him well actually I’ve just built a recording studio in my loft and reignited an album I started 25 years ago.”
His story is now set to be turned into a Hollywood film, with film producers in the US buying the rights to Kev’s story.
Kev has been to LA for meetings with screenwriter and director Billy Ray, who wrote the screenplay for The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks.
“What I loved about this story was that it was about these two men for who music had been everything,” says Mr Ray.
“And they lost that thread for about 20 years of their life. And then they found that thread again and saved one another even though neither of them knew they needed to be saved. I just thought that was beautiful".
The script is in development with British screenwriters Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.
The movie is set to be called "The Music Inside" with the search underway for actors.
