Crash on the A50 leaves motorcyclist seriously hurt

The driver of the car involved failed to stop at the scene in Leicestershire

A man is in hospital in a serious condition following a collision near the A50 Derby Southern Bypass on Monday 9th January.

The incident which involved a Yamaha FJR1300 motorcycle and a car happened sometime between 6.30pm and 7pm on the Sawley Junction roundabout. The car was reported to have left the scene following the collision. It is believed the car was a small hatchback and may have been red.

East Midlands Ambulance Service were in attendance and the motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which at the time were not believed to be life-threatening. The motorcyclist’s condition has since deteriorated and he currently remains in hospital in a serious condition.

An investigation remains ongoing and detectives are appealing to the driver of the car to come forward as well as anyone with any information regarding the collision or any dashcam footage from the area.

Detective Sergeant Jon Putnam, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The motorcyclist is now in a serious condition in hospital following this collision and we are urgently appealing to anyone with any information to come forward to us.

“If you were the driver of the car, I urge you to make contact with us so we can establish the full circumstances of this incident. Anyone else who has any information in relation to the collision or who has any dashcam footage from the area at the time should also make contact with us.
