Worcestershire have been promoted to cricket's County Championship Division One after securing a second batting bonus point against Yorkshire.

Captain Brett D'Oliveira scored a century as they passed 300, meaning they can't be caught by third placed Leicestershire.

It's a record seventh time the county has sealed promotion to the top tier, and six years to the day since the last time the Pears achieved the feat. They’ll now be making the step up alongside Champions Durham.

Worcestershire’s chief executive Ashley Giles said he’s incredibly proud of boss Alan Richardson and his coaching staff, the senior players and the whole squad for achieving promotion back to the top flight.

“This is a huge achievement for the club and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”

Praising the work Richardson has done since being appointed head coach in November 2022, Giles added: “He has created a positive and supportive environment and he has gotten the best out of every player.

“The senior players have also played a vital role, leading by example and setting high standards.

“This is a very special moment for the club, and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way.

“We are now looking forward to competing in Division One next season.”
