A woman has been jailed after a vulnerable pensioner was robbed at her home in Solihull last summer.

Emma Grey, 36, of Arbor Way, Chelmsley Wood, befriended the elderly lady and gained her trust, before stealing her jewellery.

On 28 August 2023 at around 7am, the 36-year-old knocked the elderly woman’s door and forced her way in.

Scared and confused, the lady left her flat, locking Grey inside and went to find help.

After stealing two gold rings, Grey called the concierge to the building in an attempt to help her escape. But suspecting something wasn’t quite right the concierge called the woman’s relatives.

When one of her relatives arrived at the flat, Grey shouted through the letterbox that she was a relative of the elderly lady. Knowing this not to be true, the relative left the building to get signal and call the police.

Grey left the flat before police arrived.

The elderly lady managed to make her way to McDonald’s and seek help from staff there who returned her home.

Following a police investigation, Grey was arrested and last Wednesday (10 Jan) was sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison.

She was also handed a ten year restraining order.

Detective Constable David Spencer, from Solihull Police, said: “For months, Grey harassed this vulnerable woman for money after befriending her and took advantage of her kindness.

“The woman who is sadly suffering from Alzheimer’s was exploited by Grey who stole two gold rings that were of very sentimental value that have never been found.

“We would always encourage anyone who feels something isn’t right to report it to police.”
