Two teenage boys charged with murder after a 15-year-old was killed in a daylight street attack have been remanded in youth custody until next month.

Keon Lincoln, 15, died of gunshot and stab wounds after being set upon by a group of youths on Linwood Road in Handsworth on January 21.

Two youths accused of his murder, a 14-year-old from Birmingham and a 15-year-old from Walsall who cannot be named because of a court order, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday by video link.

The teenager from Birmingham is also charged with possession of a firearm and the Walsall youth is charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Appearing before Judge Paul Farrer QC for a 10-minute hearing, both boys were told to reappear in court next month to enter pleas to the charges.

The judge told the pair:

"Your case will next be before the court on March 5th, when the court will hear further directions towards the case becoming ready for trial.

"I have fixed a trial date for the 5th of October this year, that being the earliest date when a suitable judge will be available to try this case.

"In the meantime, you are both remanded in custody to youth detention accommodation.''
