New pictures show that the giant steel beams are in place for a new £61m flyover on the A46 at Binley.

Teams carried out the work during the first two weekends of December using a 750-tonne crane to lift 32 beams at Binley junction.

The project will help ease congestion and queuing, while drivers staying on the A46 will no longer have to slow down for the roundabout when construction is complete.

The upgrade is set to be finished by spring next year (2022), while there will also be improvements made to existing footways for pedestrians and cycle paths.

National Highways Project Manager, Bryan Bradley said: “These new aerial images show the sheer scale of the giant beams that form an integral part of the new flyover at Binley.

“We planned this work methodically given the scale of the task involved and the beams were lowered into place using specialist equipment. This is a major milestone in the project and motorists can now see the new flyover starting to take shape.

“We’re making good progress on the upgrade and once the work is complete, it will alleviate congestion at a well-known bottleneck on the A46.”
