Joseph Lockington, from Solihull, suffered from a stroke in 2012, leaving him reliant on a ventilator to breathe.

And his friends are now fundraising to help buy a specially-adapted campervan to allow him to pursue his dreams of travelling.

His best friend James White is running 48 miles in 48 hours this weekend around Solihull. He has so far raised over £7,000 towards this, with an aim of £10,000.

The caravan would have to include a hoist to help move Joseph, as well as a wet room and fees to pay his carers.

James said Joe, had been "fit and healthy" before he suffered a spinal stroke on his way into school. He stopped breathing but was revived, however he was left paralysed from the neck down and now needs round-the-clock care.

"The positivity he shows day by day in unrivalled, considering what he goes through. To give him the chance to have some more autonomy and be able to do the things he loves would be amazing.

" I don't know anyone who deserves it more than him," he said.
