West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a biker died in a country road collision with a car on Saturday (6 Aug).

The man was riding along Hampton Lane, Meriden at around 5.15pm when he collided with a black Kia Sorrento near the junction of Somers Road and the entrance to Stonebridge Golf Club.

The 33-year-old, from Coventry, was thrown from the motorcycle, which burst into flames, and he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

His family – who have asked for privacy and don’t want us to identify the victim – are being supported by one of the police's family liaison officers.

The police arrested the car driver, a 71-year-old woman, on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

She’s been released under investigation to give the police time to carry out inquiries and receive test results.

Sergeant Julie Lyman from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The woman was driving along Hampton Lane away from Meriden when the collision happened near the Somers Road junction.

“We’ve spoken to some witnesses who remained at the scene but I believe there are others who left before officers arrived.

“I need those people to come forward and tell us what they saw – and I’d appeal to anyone who was driving nearby and has dash-cam footage to also get in touch.”
