Chief Constable of West Midlands Police Sir Dave Thompson to retire this year

It follows a career of more than 30-years service

The Chief Constable of West Midlands Police Sir Dave Thompson will retire from the role this year.

A formal announcement from the Police is expected on Monday with the retirement expected to be after this summer's Commonwealth games.

As well as being the regions Chief Constable Sir Dave is also the Chair of the Commonwealth Games 2022 security board.

Before coming to the West Midlands Sir Dave worked for Greater Manchester Police for 20 years. He then joined the West Midlands force as Deputy Chief Constable in 2010 and was awarded the Queen's Police medal in 2014.

Sir Dave became Chief Constable of West Midlands Police in 2016 and picked up a knighthood in the 2021 New Year's Honours list.

He is also the Vice Chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council, Senior Responsible Officer of the NPCC Inclusion & Race Programme Board and the NPCC Chair of Police Heritage Board.

He also has a degree in Law from the University of Liverpool.
