After retiring from the fire service last year, Ian Pugh decided to set himself a challenge and help raise funds for charities close to his heart.

Today (September 26) he is set to complete the journey, which has seen him cycle, paddle board and walk more than 650 miles across the country.

Ian has been solo throughout the last three weeks; carrying his own equipment for each section, and camping where possible.

He started the journey in Skegness, where he cycled to Aberdovey, about 250 miles. He then paddle boarded along the River Severn from Pool Quay to the estuary - another 242 miles.

The final stretch has seen Ian walking 177 miles along the Offas Dyke Path route from Sedbury cliffs on the South Wales coast to Prestatyn on the North Wales coast. He's set to reach the finish point this afternoon.

The aim for Ian, as well as challenging himself, is to raise awareness and funds for three charities: The Harry Johnson Trust, Samaritans Shrewsbury and The Lee Bonsall

The Harry Johnson Trust was set up following the death of seven year old Harry in 2014. He died following a nine month fight with Double Hit Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The trust offers help and support to children and teenagers who receive care from the Oncology Team at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Samaritans of Shrewsbury supports people in distress, despair and with suicidal feelings and actions.

The Lee Bonsall Memorial Fund was set up after Lee took his own life in 2012. The 24-year-old served in the army and lost a close friend in Afghanistan. He was uffering with PTSD, which was never diagnosed so therefore never treated.

Anyone who wants to find out more about the work of these charities, and to contribute to Ian's fundraising efforts can donate here.
