Jeevan Jones, one of the founders of SaveBirmingham, wants Birmingham City Council to consult different options before selling assets.

On Tuesday morning, it was confirmed that Birmingham City Council has requested permission from the Government to sell assets and properties.

In the cabinet meeting it was announced that Council Leader John Cotton, deputy Sharon Thompson, Councillor Brigid Jones and Councillor Jayne Franics will oversee the potential sales.

SaveBirmingham is a campaign that is focused on giving residents the ability and resources to protect the community spaces and services that they care about.

The campaign was launched late September amid the council’s ‘bankruptcy'.

Jeevan Jones said: “Our big call for the city council is to undertake meaningful consultation. It is not good enough to stick out a document on a website before Christmas and expect responses shortly after.

“We want to change the mindset of city council to work more in partnership, leading to better stewardship and running of communities than what we currently have at the moment.

“We think the council should pause, consult, and think about different options, giving communities a chance to run our own places than lose them forever.”

Nearly 1,000 residents have joined SaveBirmingham and have nominated at least 50 places they want protecting.
