A drug dealer from Birmingham who sold crack cocaine and heroin on the streets of a Worcestershire town has been jailed for almost four years.

Rhys Young, 22, was called a prolific drug dealer during his sentencing at Worcester Crown Court, with the drugs gang he was part of making 1,900 individual deals during a four-month period in 2020.

Young, of Harvest Road in Rowley Regis, was caught in a police raid on a house in Evesham where he was hiding in a bedroom. He was found with £777 in cash, weapons and drugs paraphernalia.

After two months of the drugs line, promotional text messages were being sent to 120 different users, prosecution barrister Ben Close said.

He also said a conservative estimate was that around 1.7kg of class A drugs were brought to the Worcestershire town.

Phone data showed that he was in Evesham "almost every day", with his role becoming bigger after two other dealers were arrested by police.

Young, who was of previous good character, was told that he must be jailed, despite defence barrister asking Judge James Burbidge to suspend the sentence.

The barrister, Raymond Ali, said Young had turned his life around since his arrest in 2020, settling down in a stable relationship and his partner was expecting a child.

But she broke down in tears in the public gallery as the judge sentenced Young, who pleaded guilty to both counts, to three years and 10 months in prison.

Appearing emotionless as he was led down from the dock, Young will be eligible for release on licence after he has served half that sentence.
