Dozens of people have joined the family and friends of Ronan Kanda to hold a march in memory of the 16-year-old, who was stabbed to death.

They gathered in Lanesfield today (19 July) at the spot where he was attacked in June last year, just yards from his home.

His family organised the march to raise awareness of knife crime and to call for the online sale of weapons to be banned.

Ronan's mum, Pooja, said: "We are a broken family, we don't have anything left now. Just to fight against knife crime, if we can save another family from what we're going through.

"It's spreading like an epidemic, we have to put harsher punishment in place in order for knife crime to reduce.

The march started at Mount Road and headed to The Khalsa Academy, Ronan's former school.

Ronan's parents and sister were among those to speak to the crowd which gathered, many wearing 'Justice for Ronan' T-shirts and hoodies.

Ronan was stabbed in June 2022, when he was walking back from a friend's house in a case of mistaken identity.

Last week, two 17-year-olds from Walsall, Prabjeet Veadhesa and Sukhman Shergill, were sentenced to a combined total of 34 years for murder.

Ronan's family have launched an anti-knife crime campaign and are working with their local MP, Labour's Pat McFadden, to gain support in parliament.
