A West Midlands serving police officer has appeared in court charged with assaulting a 12-year-old boy.
Pc Sharanjit Kaur is accused of an assault by beating of a schoolboy during an incident in Great King Street North, Birmingham, while off duty on October 13 last year, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said previously.
Kaur, 41, of Great Barr, attended for a brief hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, speaking only to confirm her name, age and address.
The officer's barrister Ian Bridge made legal representations, with District Judge David Murray adjourning the case for a further hearing later this year.
Setting another hearing date for June 15, back at the same court, the judge told Kaur: "You will have been told what needs to be resolved until we can progress this matter - and certainly before any plea (needs to be entered)."
In a statement released in advance of Thursday's court appearance, the IOPC said its investigation into the incident began last year after a mandatory conduct referral by West Midlands Police.
Following the investigation, charges were filed against the officer in March by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The IOPC said West Midlands Police had suspended Kaur pending the outcome of the criminal case.
