Officers investigating a robbery and an attempted robbery in Nuneaton are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The first incident took place on the top end of Marlborough Road shortly before 11pm on Tuesday (2 January).

A man in his 50s was walking when he noticed another man wearing a black ski mask and a long coat with his hood up behind him.

When he turned to speak with him, he was threatened with what is thought to be a bladed object.

The man, who is described as Asian and around 5ft 10in tall, took his wallet containing bank cards before running off in the direction of Queens Road. The victim was uninjured but left shaken by the incident.

The second incident took place a few hours later around 2am on Wednesday (3 January).

An 18-year-old woman was walking on Corporation Street when she was approached by a man wearing all black who had his face covered.

He demanded she gave him her mobile phone and threatened her with what is believed to be a bladed object.

The woman refused to hand over the phone and fled the area. She was unharmed.

Enquiries into both incidents are ongoing and we are treating them as linked at this time.

Detective Inspector Paul Sartoris said: “Thankfully the victims did not suffer more serious injuries, but it was an unpleasant experience for them both and we continue to investigate the circumstances around what happened.

“Given the description of the potential offender and the area where the two incidents took place, we’re treating them as linked.

“We’re particularly keen to hear from to anyone who saw either incident, who noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area or who can help.

“Any information, no matter how small, could prove pivotal as we continue our investigations.”
