A man has been taken to hospital after being struck by a car on Stratford Road in Sparkbrook this morning (26 June).

The man, in his 80s, suffered life-threatening injuries, as the driver of the Mazda MX-5 made off on foot.

Police say efforts are on-going to trace him with officers appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Stratford Road was closed between the Shell garage and the junction of Oakwood Road after it happened so collision investigators could examine the scene to establish what happened.

They are also speaking to witnesses and trawling CCTV.
