Pedestrian dies in Quinton crash

A 45-year-old man has died after he was knocked down by a van on one of Birmingham's busiest roads.

The was confirmed dead at the scene at the junction near Ridgeway Avenue in Halesowen at about 06:15 this morning (Thursday 23rd Jan).

The van driver, who we're told was not hurt, has been arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“We’ve launched an investigation into the circumstances of this collision.

“I’d ask anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to us, to contact me or my team as soon as possible.

“A man has sadly lost his life, his family have been informed and our specialist officers will provide support to them.

“If you saw anything or have dashcam footage please contact us.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“Crews arrived to discover a man, who was the pedestrian, with multiple serious injuries following the collision.

“Ambulance staff performed specialist trauma care and administered advanced life support at the scene.

“However, despite their best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The van driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”
