'Memory cafe' open in Wolverhampton to help those with dementia
It opened in Bilston last week
A new memory cafe to help those living with dementia, as well as their family and friends has opened in Wolverhampton.
It is open on the second Tuesday of every month at Bilston Sports and Social Club, between noon and 2pm, with the next session due to take place on 8th November.
Councillor Linda Leach, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services, was joined at the official opening by Stuart Richmond from Bilston and Willenhall Lions Club and Lee Allen from the Alzheimer's Society.
She said: "We have a number of memory cafés operating throughout Wolverhampton and I was delighted to be able to help officially open our newest one at Bilston Sports and Social Club this week.
“It offers people living with dementia, and their families and carers, a couple of hours of light relief, a chance to play some games, meet other people, have a cuppa and a bite to eat, and associate with people who are dealing with this dreadful disease.”
She added: “I’d like to thank Stuart and members of the Lions Club and volunteers for making this new café possible, and would encourage as people living with dementia, and family members and carers, to come along to the Memory Café at Bilston Sports and Social Club on the second Tuesday of the month.”
The Alzheimer's Society has granted Wolverhampton Dementia Friendly Community Status after recognising the work organisations within the Wolverhampton Dementia Action Alliance are doing to improve services for people living with dementia, and their families and carers.
