A man who failed to appear in court charged in connection with a dog attack in Birmingham has been arrested, police have said.

Farhat Ajaz, 62, was due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with three counts of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place following an incident in Bordesley Green on September 9.

An 11-year-old girl suffered shoulder and arm injuries in the attack by an American XL bully and Staffordshire bull terrier crossbreed, while two men were also injured after the dog allegedly broke free from its collar twice.

Ajaz, of Bordesley Close, Birmingham, did not appear for the hearing and district judge David Wain issued a warrant for his arrest after a request from the Crown Prosecution Service.

West Midlands Police confirmed that Ajaz was arrested in the Bordesley Green area on Friday morning.

The force said the dog remains in secure kennels.
