Police are investigating the death of a man in a hit-and-run in Birmingham.

It’s believed he was struck at around 2am on Washwood Heath Road near the junction with Bennetts Road today (1 July).

Officers are examining CCTV and carrying out other enquiries to identify the car and the driver.

Sgt Stuart Edge said: “I’d urged the driver of the vehicle which hit this pedestrian to do the right thing and come forward, before we come to arrest them.

“We’re working hard to understand exactly what happened, and would urge anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

West Midlands Police have said road safety is a key issue for them and are actively patrolling key areas to enforce speed limits and protect communities from the dangers of excessive speed and other road harm issues.
