A man has been jailed after police found a handgun and ammunition at an address in Birmingham.

They were acting on information before executing a warrant in Cotterills Lane, Ward End, on 30 April this year.

Ahmad Sharifi was arrested from the address and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences and was jailed for five years at Birmingham Crown Court last Monday (14 August).

West Midlands Police said: "Every gun we take off the streets reduces the risk of harm to others. We remain committed to combating gun crime throughout the region.

"We've launched Operation Target to take a defiant stand against serious and organised crime offences – from drug dealing and burglary, to cyber-crime and fraud - as part of our ongoing work to catch offenders and keep you safe."
