A man is being treated for serious injuries after being hit by a car in Birmingham on Saturday evening (13 Jan).

It happened at the junction of Belgrave Middleway and Highgate Road at approximately 6:30pm. The vehicle involved then fled the scene.

The pedestrian - a man in his 40s - is being treated in hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is thought to be in a stable but critical condition.

Shortly after, officers spotted a car being driven dangerously before tracing it to an address where they arrested two men, aged 27 and 39, on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.

They remain in police custody.

Det Sgt Julie Lyman, from our serious collision investigation unit, said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and recalls seeing a collision or was travelling on the road with a dash cam to contact us.

"A man has suffered traumatic injuries and we need to piece together what happened."

West Midlands Police are urging anyone who witnesses the collision to get in touch. They are keen to view dashcam footage of the incident.
