An investigation is underway after a man died following a collision in Coventry.

The man, in his 30s, suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a blue Ford Focus just after 6pm yesterday, on London Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's family have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting West Midlands Police with their enquiries.

Officers have spoken to a number of witnesses but are asking anyone who has not yet spoken to them to get in contact.

DC Chris Ridge from the serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with this young man's family at this difficult time.

“Our priority is to establish exactly what happened and we are reviewing CCTV footage from around the time of the collision.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "“We were called at 6:01pm to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian on London Road in Coventry on Wednesday night. We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found the pedestrian, a man, in a critical condition, with bystander CPR already in progress. Staff took over and administered advanced trauma care to the man but sadly, despite the best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased on scene.”
