Man denies murdering woman in Shropshire hit-and-run

A man charged with murdering a 22-year-old woman in Shropshire has denied murder.
Appearing via video link at Stafford Crown Court today (November 11), Stephen McHugh, 27, of Artillery Road in Oswestry entered a not guilty plea.
Rebecca Steer was seriously injured when a vehicle mounted a kerb in Willow Street during the early hours. She later died in hospital.
Ms Steer, who was an undergraduate at Liverpool John Moores University, was described as "a budding talent and admirable young woman".
A second pedestrian was hit by the car in the incident, but was discharged from hospital.
McHugh is also charged with causing grievous bodily with intent to the man who was injured. He's been remanded in custody following the hearing.
Adjourning the case, the Recorder of Stafford, Judge Kristina Montgomery KC, told McHugh: "As you have heard, we have listed your trial on April 19th of 2023.
"There is a good deal of work to be done in preparation for your trial. A further hearing has been scheduled for the 8th of March, at which final preparations for your trial can be made."
