Man charged over possession of a firearm in Birmingham

West Midlands Police has taken a viable firearm off the streets after a vehicle was stopped in Northfield just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

Three occupants made off from the car in Mill Lane and two were apprehended after a footchase.

A search of the vehicle revealed the weapon.

Jermaine Vassel, aged 19, was charged on Christmas Day with possession of a firearm and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on December 26th where he was remanded for a further appearance at Crown Court.

A 20-year-old man was released on police bail with strict conditions.
