A man is being questioned by police after a fatal collision in Dudley last night (26 January).

It's understood a car hit two pedestrians on Tipton Road, Sedgley just after 8.30pm before driving off.

A 64-year-old man sadly died at the scene and a 61-year-old woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers have recovered a suspect vehicle, which was abandoned in the area and will be forensically examined.

A 33-year-old man handed himself in at Brierley Hill police station last night (26 January), he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the friends and family of the man and woman who are still coming to terms with what has happened.

“We have specialist family liaison officers supporting them at this incredibly sad time.

“We’re grateful to all the witnesses who have already come forward to help with our investigation.

“Whilst the recovery of a suspect vehicle and an arrest are positive steps, the investigation is far from complete.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage or anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to us, to please come forward.

“Every piece of information is vital so please do not assume it is not or that we already know. The man’s family deserve answers and we need to establish exactly what happened leading to this tragic incident.”
