West Midlands Police say a 'major' investigation is underway after a woman was raped near a busy shopping centre in Birmingham.

The woman's currently in hospital after she was attacked near The Princess Alice retail park in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday (3rd October) night. A section of parkland was been cordoned off while forensics take place. CCTV footage is also being looked at and more officers will be on patrol in the area in response to the incident.

The victim is in hospital recovering from her injuries with specialist charities said to be on standby to support her. New details of the attacker have been released, police say they're looking for;

  • A white man aged 20-35 with a Birmingham accent
  • Wearing a grey tracksuit and black trainers

Officers say locals have noticed someone matching his description hanging around the park.

Detective inspector Andy McHugh is leading the investigation. He said: “We’ll be working around the clock to find this man but you can help by checking your CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage. Look for anything that doesn’t seem right. Tell us right away if you see anything.

“Our thoughts are with the woman who is understandably extremely traumatised.”

Anyone if information is being asked to contact Det Insp McHugh at West Midlands Police using the investigation number 20/1595275/21.
