A man has been jailed in his absence after failing to appear at Court in connection with the breach of an injunction in place at Kingsbury Oil Terminal.

Jake Handling, 27, of Mains Drive, Dundee failed to appear at court last week and was jailed for six weeks in his absence. He will serve the sentence when he is arrested.

Joshua Smith, 29, of Ashfield Drive, Manchester also received a six-week suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay £250 costs.

The two men were arrested by Warwickshire Police at the site on Saturday 23 April.

The Order was secured by North Warwickshire Borough Council on 14 April 2022 against the campaigners following a number of protests at the site.

A warrant has been issued for Handling’s arrest. Anyone with information that could help police locate him is being asked to call 101. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Leader of the North Warwickshire Borough Council, Cllr David Wright said: “The Council supports the right to lawful protest but some of the actions have and continue to create unacceptable dangers.

The Injunction gives the Police much better powers to stop repeat and dangerous protestors and today’s sentencing has shown that breaches won’t be taken lightly. This hopefully will act as a deterrent to others and show that both the council and the Police are doing everything in their powers to prevent unsafe protesting at Kingsbury.”
