Extra stop and search powers as police continue to investigate shootings in Birmingham
A 32-year-old man was targeted in Newtown, while another was shot in Washwood Heath.
Extra stop and search powers have been in force in Birmingham overnight, as police continue to investigate two separate shootings.
A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg after shots were fired in Hockley Close on Saturday afternoon (29 April).
He remains under arrest for attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Six others, all aged between 16 and 27, are also being held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
In a second incident on Sunday (30 April), a man was in a car on Shaw Hill Road in Washwood Heath when shots were fired at the vehicle.
He remains in hospital where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
West Midlands Police have used Section 60 powers overnight for a second night, in the B8 and B9 postcodes.
The powers, which end at 7am, were also extended to the Erdington, Handsworth, Newtown and Aston, and Winson Green and Ladywood areas.
Section 60 powers enable officers to stop and search people they suspect may be involved in violence, without the need to have reasonable grounds.
A force spokesperson said: "We know incidents like this cause alarm and we have increased patrols in place as officers continue with fast-track enquiries into both incidents."
