A Herefordshire based Loss & Wellbeing Specialist is hosting a reflective walk this evening in Hereford through the window-lit Church St and Broad Street to come together as a community. The reflective walk will be in memory of loved ones.

Setup by The Good Grief Trust, Grief Awareness Week aims to remove the taboo around grieving and give people an opportunity to speak to someone about their loss.

Dawn Ford is a Loss and Wellbeing Specialist and will host the session to highlight the need for people to grief in their own way.

In an interview with Free Radio, Dawn said: “Some people feel they cannot grief and that feeling will come out in behaviour. For example, being violent or aggressive.”

Dawn added that people often use destructive coping tools to deal with grief, such as alcohol and drugs or other behaviours such as isolating themselves or keeping busy, in a bid to numb their feelings of loss.

This evening, at 6pm at the Black and White House in Hereford, Dawn will be meeting up with anyone who wishes to reflect on loved ones as they walk through Hereford Church Street and along to Broad St.

Dawn said: “Grief is still a taboo in 2022, many people simply say move on, get over it, but that does not help. Some people feel so overwhelmed by loss, especially those who have lost a child or a loved one to suicide, they seek compassion and feel if they speak out, they will be judged”.
