A former West Midlands Police student officer has been jailed for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he’d met on-line.

Haider Siddique was arrested after a bus driver spotted him acting inappropriately towards the victim on a bus March 2022, whilst he was on long term sick leave.

Siddique, 22, resigned whilst in custody and was found guilty of sexual activity with a child, inciting a child to commit a sexual act, child abduction and grooming in January.

Today (11 August) at Birmingham Crown Court, he's been sentenced to 7-and-a-half years in prison.

Deputy Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine said: “This was a sickening criminal act by a former student officer, who appeared to be offering support to this vulnerable young girl but was in fact grooming her sexually.

“We did not hesitate to arrest Siddique and have carried out a robust and meticulous investigation to establish the full extent of his abuse.

“We are committed to rooting out any member of staff who engages in criminality whenever we find evidence of it.

“Siddique’s crimes will have significantly impacted upon his victim, and I know his fellow officers will be repulsed by his behaviour.”

An NSPCC Spokesperson said: “Having undertaken training to become a police officer, Siddique should have known the devastating impact child sexual abuse can have on the victims.

"His targeted grooming and sexual abuse of a vulnerable girl was a terrible breach of trust, and we hope she is receiving the care and support she needs.

“We also commend the bus driver who spoke up about Siddique’s behaviour. We would encourage anyone with concerns for a child’s safety to speak out and seek support to help protect them."
