Firefighters still damping down factory fire in Wednesbury

A factory fire in Wednesbury has left the air around filled with smoke.

50 firefighters, 10 fire engines and one aerial platform were called at lunchtime to tackle the blaze, which started on Patent Drive, just after midday

West Midlands Fire service say that everyone was evacuated from the site and everyone was accounted for.

Patent Drive remained closed to traffic.

The building is also thought to have collapsed due to the fire.

Advise to people living nearby is to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution due to the smoke.

Crews are now damping down and continue to remain at the site.

Crews are being supported by colleagues from technical rescue, who are assisting with the building's structural assessment.
