Police are urgently appealing for information after a member of the public died in a collision involving a car which failed to stop at the scene.

Officers were called to Chester Road at its junction with Gravelly Lane in Erdington, Birmingham, at around 5.30pm, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:

“We believe the car initially stopped but then drove away from the scene.

“We’re carrying out urgent enquiries to find that car and the driver, and I really need to hear from anyone with dash-cam, mobile phone or CCTV footage.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“When crews arrived, they found members of the public providing basic life support to the cyclist.

“They immediately took over and provided advance trauma care. Sadly, despite their best efforts, it was not possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
