Extra officers on patrol in Worcester after 72-year-old woman critically injured in stabbing

West Mercia Police have deployed extra officers to the scene of a stabbing in Worcester this morning - which has left a woman in her 70s with critical injuries.
The officers will be patrolling the city centre following the incident shortly after 2am this morning (May 7), which was followed by an immediate response from the emergency services.
A 56-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
The woman, who is 72 years old, was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds - where she remains at this time.
A cordon also remains in place in Kleve Walk as investigations in crime scene continue.
Patrols have been increased in the area to offer reassurance to the local community.
Superintendent Rebecca Love said: “We understand the concerning nature of this incident and have officers in the area both to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the local community.
“Officers responded to the incident very quickly and apprehended a man. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody. Our enquiries are on-going, and we are treating this as an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the wider public.
“We are aware this location is extremely popular and want people to be able to visit it and feel safe. Therefore you will see an increase in police presence but I can reassure you there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
