Excitement mounts in Coventry for huge ice skating rink
This evening, Broadgate will welcome the first skaters onto its new, spectacular festive-themed ice rink.
A huge ice skating rink is opening in Coventry city centre, offering people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to enjoy the space - from tonight right through to early January.
Coventry City Council has partnered with Visit Coventry and Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) to bring this festive experience to Broadgate.
As well as the ice rink, there will be a combination of festive food stands, Christmas music and dazzling lights.
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Events at Coventry City Council, said: "As we look forward to the festive season, the opening of the city’s ice rink in the heart of our city centre will bring more excitement and festive-filled fun to visitors and residents.
"We appreciate there’s some challenging times for everyone at the moment, including the knock-on effect for local businesses and traders. However, many people do look forward with their friends, families, and children to this magical time of year."
The winter period is always a key time for city centre traders and the Ice Rink and wider Winter Wonderland promotion is said to encourage local people to support their city centre this Christmas season.
Joanne Glover, Manager, Coventry BID said: "We are delighted to share this special festive offering with you, having collaborated with Coventry City Council and Visit Coventry to create a winter wonderland, guaranteed to spark some truly magical moments."
Making Coventry a major destination this winter is also an important element of the partnership as Paul Jones, Managing Director at Visit Coventry, added: "Our Skate into Coventry ice rink is the centrepiece of Coventry’s incredible Winter Wonderland offering this festive season.
"With such a variety of things to see and do being showcased by our venues and attractions across the city, Coventry is putting on a Christmas experience that rivals its neighbours near and far."
The ice rink will be open seven days a week, operating throughout the day and into the evening and only closed on Christmas Day. Prices start from £6.50 a child and adults start from £7.50 (pls booking fee) for Go CV Plus card holders .
