Shortly before Newcastle United and Chelsea faced each other in a Premier League fixture at St James’ Park on Saturday, November 12 last year, a fight broke out outside the Black and White Bull pub on Barrack Road, in Newcastle, between rival supporters.

Officers from Northumbria Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident.

The banning orders were given following a collaborative approach between the force's Football Unit, Response Policing Team, Criminal Investigation Department and the UK Football Policing Unit.

The four men, including Ferrell, have been convicted of public order offences.

The four men have now been served with football banning orders, which will stop them from attending any regulated football match in the UK for the next three years.

Ferrell, 39, of Newburn, Newcastle, played for Hereford United between 2005 and 2007 - making 52 appearances and scoring two goals.

The midfielder also had a loan spell at Kidderminster Harriers - before signing permanently after leaving Hereford United.

He played for the team until 2009.
