Employment figures for June 2021 show that the number of people living in Worcestershire who are in employment is now above the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.

In June 2021 there were 264,840 people in payrolled employment living in Worcestershire, 4,614 more than in May 2021 and 1,816 more than February 2020.

Worcestershire is bucking the trend nationally as the UK as a whole still has less people in employment than in February 2020.

Marc Bayliss cabinet member for Economy and Skills at Worcestershire County Council said, “This is really positive news for the people of Worcestershire and shows real resilience from the businesses in the area and the range of support provided throughout the pandemic is having an impact.

"We know that the past 17 months have been challenging for businesses and for those looking for work and these figures are really encouraging.

“It’s also fantastic to see that Worcestershire is one of the counties leading the way in the UK and improving on the figures from before the March 2020 lockdown.”
