Elderly man injured after being robbed in Birmingham home

A woman has been arrested after an elderly man was robbed in his own home in Birmingham.

Police were called shortly after midnight yesterday (11 February) after the break-in at Rednal Road.

Valuables were stolen and the occupant, who is in his 80s, suffered a knife wound to his hand as he tried to protect himself.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and discharged.

A woman in her 20s was arrested shortly before 2am. She remains in custody while investigations continue.

Officers believe others were involved in the incident and are urging anyone with information to contact them.

A statement from West Midlands Police added: "Burglary is a priority for us and we know how distressing it can be, especially if you live alone.

"Victim Support is an independent charity that help people affected by crime and traumatic events."
