Elderly man dies in house fire in Birmingham

West Midlands Fire Service say they are saddened to confirm that a man in his nineties died following a house fire in Birmingham over the weekend.

They responded to a terraced property in Overton Road, Acocks Green at 5.50am on Saturday morning (4 Feb).

Crews from Billesley, Solihull and Hay Mills fire stations attended.

They forced their way into the house, and were met with a well-developed fire in the lounge.

They wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out by 6.20am

They say their thoughts are with everyone affected by the man's death.

It is believed that the fire started accidentally. A report will be prepared for HM Coroner.
